Do you have a long layover at Singapore Changi Airport? Exciting news for travelers stopping at this airport has just been announced!
Through its official social media channels, Changi Airport has just announced that starting on April 3, the Free Singapore Tour services will resume.
According to the information shared by Business Traveller, the decision to re-launch this service —first introduced in 1987— has been made by Singapore Airlines, the Singapore Tourism Board, and the Changi Airport Group, and a new tour has been added to feature the eastern region.
The fascinating tours under three hours had been suspended for over two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but now travelers can choose from great tour options in under 3 hours.
Eligible passengers —certain requirements must be met— can choose from the Changi Precinct Tour, the City Sights Tour, the Jewel Tour, and —starting in June this year— the Heritage Tour.
All itineraries will be available every day, including weekends and holidays, in English. Here’s what travelers should know about the free tours:
Requirements For Travelers
Even though Singapore’s Changi Airport is the best airport in the world and just exploring the airport can be a great experience —it has its own movie theater, rooftop swimming pools, butterfly gardens, gaming lounges, and so much more— the tours can be a great opportunity to get the most out of this amazing destination.
At the airport, passengers will have three bus tour itineraries available that last 2.5 hours. Organizers expect to increase tour options to up to 9 experiences a day.
Travelers interested in taking one of the free tours available must:
- Be a transit or transfer passenger at Changi Airport.
- Have at least 5.5 hours to 24 hours —it can’t exceed a day— to spare before the next connecting flight.
- Register upon arrival within the transit area.
- Bring boarding passes, passports, entry visas, and tour booking confirmation.
To register, travelers can scan the QR codes at the Free Singapore Tour counters or pre-book the tour through the online booking page.
The counters are located in Terminal 2 near Gate 50, or Terminal 3 near Gate A1-A8. Both counters open from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Tours Available
Those who meet all the requirements, depending on the day and time, will be able to join one of the Free Singapore Tour experiences:
Changi Precinct Tour
This tour explores Singapore’s east side, and visitors get to see the Singaporean lifestyle. Travelers visit the town Tampines—which won a United Nations World Habitat Award— including its central park and community hub, the Changi Chapel & Museum, and the Changi village and beach park.
City Sights Tour
Travelers taking this tour will be able to see Singapore’s modern side and visit the City Hall, explore the Civic District, and also see the Jubilee Bridge, stop at Merlion Park, and admire the impressive Marina Bay Sands.
Jewel Tour
For those who don’t want to miss the opportunity to explore the best part of the unique Changi Airport—American travelers will get to compare and see what’s missing in the U.S. to rank among the best airports—, this 2.5-hour walking tour will be the best option.
Heritage Tour
Starting this June, lucky travelers will be the first to experience this new tour. Passengers will get to visit the historic Civic District and walk in cultural neighborhoods stopping at Chinatown and Kampong Gelam.
Travelers will find more information and details on the requirements, tour itineraries, and other options at Changi Airport’s official website.
Singapore Tourism Board expects to get more travelers interested in Singapore and encourage them to choose Singapore as their next destination. Changi Airport links travelers to over 140 cities across the globe and operates over 5,500 weekly flights.
Many travelers stopping at this impressive airport will have a great opportunity to explore it and take a sneak peek of the city with these tours. In the meantime, American travelers can enjoy the U.S. airports with the best lounges.
